Things to Enjoy in Fall

Fall is fast approaching, even in the South. The last days of summer can feel sad, but the good thing about preparing for fall is that you can do it as a family. This seasonal shift isn’t limited to a change in our natural environment but also has a profound effect on the rhythm and health of our bodies.

While nature may be winding down, for us, fall typically signals a return to school and work, which means more hectic schedules. You can do interesting and fun activities to enjoy the rest of the season. It can be an opportunity to implement new, healthy routines, habits, and lifestyle changes. Here are some of the things that will help you prepare for the season.

  1. Make an outfit change. Get prepared for the temperatures to start becoming more moderate, so it can be a perfect time to enjoy the beach and/or boating! You can also pull out your warm pajamas. 🖐️

  2. Plan all the fall stuff. You can't have a great fall without apples, leaves, and pumpkin spice lattes. Create an experience you won’t soon forget.

  1. Have a garage sale. A post-summer garage sale can be the perfect way to clean out the summer toys and gear you no longer need while making room for holiday decorations. Plus, it is a great way to meet your neighbors and their kids before school starts. 🥳

  1. Clean out your gutters and clean your windows. Now that temperatures are dropping, it’s a perfect time to do outdoor work.

  1. Create a new meal plan. As a general rule of thumb, eat seasonally as much as possible and you can’t go wrong. Seasonal foods support our bodies with what they need during each season. 🙆

  1. Go to a revitalizing exercise. Dr. Nicole Kilian, ND, LaC shares, “Fall is a great time of year to transition from more ‘yang’ activities (running, biking) to more restorative, ‘yin’ activities like yoga, taichi, and qigong. but always remember to check with your health care provider before starting a new exercise. 🧎

  1. Talk to yourself-thing. Fall is usually the "home stretch" for work-related goals and accomplishments before the annual end-of-year performance reviews, making this the perfect time to review your goals and accomplishments and make sure you’re still on track.

Most of all, take time to appreciate and give thanks for this wonderful place that we get to call home! 😊😊
